Venue:
The Incoterms® Rules of the ICC interpret a set of 11 three-letter codes (EXW, FOB, CPT, …) that allocate the tasks, costs and risks involved in the delivery of goods between sellers and buyers. As such they allow sellers and buyers from different cultures and legal systems to agree without any risk of misunderstanding at what point the costs and risks of delivery transfer from one to the other, who has to book the freight, who has to organize customs formalities etc. Thus Incoterms make international trade easier but only if parties choose the Incoterm that allocates the cost, risk and formalities of the shipment correctly.
Programme Aim
To provide course participants with:
- a clear understanding of the principles of effective logistical arrangements and to understand methods of mitigating risks and to optimize the organization’s logistical activities;
- the capability to plan, implement and evaluate a logistical exercise appropriate to the value/risk of the goods being transported;
- to understand the link between the logistical arrangements of any given Incoterms rule in a contract of sale and the financial, administrative, insurance, transport and tax (customs and VAT) arrangements subsequent to that contractual decision
Target Group
This course is designed for those working in international trade (private + public sector), in-house as well as an external consultant, who are interested in gaining a comprehensive understanding of appropriate logistical arrangements, documentation and Incoterms. Specifically, it is relevant to those in procurement, sales, finance and logistics, those who as a manager or lawyer are to manage and/or advice these departments and those who are to solve disputes.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the programme, participants will:
- Be able to describe the principles of logistics and determine the appropriate logistical arrangements for a range of business processes (pricing, payment, supply chain, accounting, …);
- Understand the need for insurance and the types of coverage available;
- Understand the pros and cons of different Incoterms and the appropriate use of Incoterms
- Know about loss prevention, means and actions to put in place to minimize or prevent loss
- Know about customs procedures and documentation and the most common documents required for export/import;
